Campaign
Safe Water for Children
Help the children with a donation!
Due to inadequate sanitation facilities and lack of awareness about water and hygiene management, villages in India face various problems. The Women Development Welfare Society wants to improve water and sanitation facilities in two villages and one school. It also aims to raise awareness about hygiene. Help to make possible the construction of a water treatment plant for one village, a washing area and sewage treatment plant for a school and awareness-raising measures!
Together we can make the world a better place in small steps!
The people in the villages of Chamanpalli and Jubli Nagar from Karimnagar district, Telangana state, India, are underdeveloped by illiteracy and lack of awareness. Thus, they suffer from various transmitted diseases (viral infections) due to unsafe water and bad sanitation facilitation. The local government is providing free education and mid-day meals for poor children, but there is no education given on hygienic practices. Therefore, there is not enough knowledge on healthy habituates, safe sanitary methods, eco-friendly activities and healthy drinking water practices. Due to the lack of these facilities, the situation of families affected by poverty is additionally exacerbated.
Women Development Welfare Society (WDWS) wants to address these issues with the improvement of current sanitation facilities and awareness-raising activities. After conducting a detailed survey, the two villages of Chamanpalli and Jubli Nagar have been selected for the implementation of this project. We want to raise awareness in the village’s communities, the concerned school staff and school children about water related diseases, benefits of pure drinking water, using safe WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Methods. Furthermore, water saving policy are to be implemented. Moreover, we want to improve the sanitation facilities by installing water plant for one village (Chamanpalli) and one purifier installation for one school (ZPHS – Jublinagar village).
Planned Steps
Stage 1: Awareness Raising with Workshops Workshops will be conducted including the following topics: personal hygiene, safe sanitary methods, safe disposal and environmental conservation. In addition, ‘Clean-up days’, puppet plays and video training will be there with the school children.
Stage 2: Healthy School Environment As part of this project, WDWS will install a water purifier in one school and build wash & drinking area panels. Our team along with school staff will train the children how to use the panels and form a water management committee with children.
Stage 3: Pure drinking water for Chamanpalli village The selected area Chamanpalli village water contains fluoride. For drinking purpose, many people use water tanks which cost around Rs.25/- each. For cooking, generally borewell water is used which contains fluoride. Many poor families use this water also for drinking, since they cannot afford water tanks. To improve that, one water plant will be installed for this village.
Stage 4: Outreach to Families and Communities In all stages of the implementation of the proposed project, parents and teachers’ associations will be involved. To strengthen the activities in the schools, simultaneously a public awareness campaign on sanitation and hygiene will be implemented.
